A striking timepiece with hoop and spikes. No evidence of an alarm ever having been fitted. Alarm disc is original and riveted to the dial plate by the maker purely for decoration. Originally running on crown wheel and verge but having a very early conversion to anchor escapement and long pendulum at the very beginning of the eighteenth century. This original conversion retained. Nicely detailed hammer stop of typical Northern style. Rope drive on the Huygens continuous rope system.

The engraved dial nicely decorated with a naive angel face or sun below the twelve. Chapter ring riveted to the dial plate which was a common practice in the Manchester area. The bell strap clips around the finials in a first period style, this method very common in Lancashire clocks. The clock retaining the rich patina that has built up over hundreds of years.

The clock having 5 1/2" square frame, 6" diameter chapter ring of 1 3/8" width and engraved 6" high dial plate. Standing 14 1/2" high to top of bell finial.
