Lantern clock signed James Whittaker with recoil escapement and long pendulum.

A striking timepiece originally with hoop and spikes (now lacking), originally running on crown wheel and verge, later converted to recoil escapement and long pendulum. The chapter ring is a typical example of James Whittaker's work, being riveted by 2 rivets directly to the front plate. The front dial plate being finely matted with turned detail to the centre.

The clock having 6" square frame, 7" diameter chapter ring of 1 3/4" width and engraved 6 1/4" high dial plate. Standing 15" high to top of bell finial.

James Whittaker of Middleton near Manchester was born in 1666 and died in 1720.
